What is Vedic Meditation?

If you can think, you can practice Vedic meditation.

It really is that simple. With Vedic meditation, thoughts come and go as we gently repeat a mantra (sound).

This effortless technique comes from teachings found in the Vedas, an ancient body of knowledge from India and one of the world’s oldest sacred texts. Although its origins date back 5,000 years, it feels amazingly modern.

Vedic meditation is meant for people with jobs, families, and all kinds of busy-ness. It’s portable. No app or incense required. You can do it on planes, in trains, even in the car (passengers only, please).

This practice is a bliss technique that allows you to rest at a profoundly deep level. When this happens, stresses stored in the body begin to unwind, leading to feelings of greater calm and clarity both in and out of meditation. (See additional benefits below).  All that’s required is sitting comfortably with the eyes closed and repeating a mantra (sound) twice a day for 20 minutes.

How does meditation help?

Numerous studies have validated the health and wellness benefits of Vedic meditation. Most are related to the fight-flight-freeze (and please) response that happens when your body and your mind sense danger. Meditation provides the antidote to this fear response. Here’s what that looks like:

This leads to the benefits you’ll enjoy:

  • Decreased stress and anxiety

  • Increased energy

  • Better focus, clarity, and concentration

  • Enhanced creativity

  • Greater performance and productivity

  • Improved problem-solving and decision making

  • More energy and resilience

  • Reduced insomnia and fatigue

  • Decreased symptoms of depression, ADHD, and addictive behaviors

  • Improved relationships, both personal and professional

  • More happiness for no particular reason and a generally chill(er) vibe

  • Better parking spaces*

*For real. Although formal research is yet to be conducted, as consistent meditators, nine times out of 10, we’re able to snag great spots. The Trader Joe’s parking lot does not lie.

  • Everyone. It’s easy and accessible for anyone who wants to improve their life. We welcome everyone regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, faith, economic and marital status, mental and physical ability, and educational level. No matter what your story is, you are welcome here.

  • Yes. It’s actually perfect for you. With Vedic meditation, we don’t try to control the mind or make it quiet. We let the mind do what it does, which is chatter. We just add one more thing: the mantra. By repeating this sound in a very specific and effortless fashion, our systems begin to de-excite, with the mind and body settling down into a deep state of relaxation. Vedic meditation is a very simple, effective technique that anyone can master with the proper instruction.

  • While we totally get the appeal of listening to soothing and sexy Harry Styles on the Calm app, we believe that the personal training, insight, and support you get from us is one direction beyond.

Once you complete our course (about six hours of instruction spread over four days), you’ll be a self-sufficient meditator. From that point on, you’ll be able to successfully meditate on your own without any accessories, anywhere you can sit comfortably and feel safe with your eyes closed, back supported, and head and neck free.

And once we teach you, there’s no ghosting! We’re here to help you handle any meditation challenges that pop up as your practice continues. It’s our lifetime support guarantee.

  • Results vary, but many people notice that their minds and bodies feel more relaxed after the very first time they meditate. Often, people who don’t notice a difference in themselves early on are surprised to find friends and family actually commenting that they’re more pleasant to be around after just a few days of meditating. So do your loved ones a favor. Learn to meditate.

  • Nope, this is not a religious practice. It’s a very specific mental relaxation technique that anyone can do. Many confirmed atheists report great success with practicing Vedic meditation without embracing religion of any kind. That said, if you have a religious practice, you might find it enhances your connection to the source of your spiritual beliefs.

  • Sure. Just not at the same time. Vedic meditation can be a great complement to other practices, such as mindfulness.

  • The standard course fee is $800, but we offer a sliding scale. For us, the gift of learning this form of meditation was priceless. That’s why we don’t think of this charge as payment for the practice itself. Instead, it’s for our time and availability to teach and support you for the four days of instruction and beyond. If you can’t afford to pay the entire fee upfront, let’s discuss setting up a plan to pay in installments. If you want to learn, we’d like to find a way to teach you.

  • Do you teach kids?

Yes! Kids ages 8-12 can learn free of charge. The only requirement is that one parent or guardian must practice Vedic meditation. In addition, “payment” is in the form of a piece of art that the child creates and brings with them on the day of instruction. We also offer reduced rates for teenagers/students as well.

And finally, there is a baby mantra (for 0-3 month infants) that we are happy to share with new parents who are Vedic meditators, free of charge. Let us know if you’re interested or have questions.

  • Because the first day of the course must be taught in person, currently, we’re mainly teaching in the LA area. Now that travel is happening again, we plan to offer instruction in other locations later this year, including New York, Boston, Maine, and more. Hit us up for details!
